Window Falls Prevention & Child Safety

Ensuring the safety of children in the home is a top priority for parents and caregivers. One significant aspect of child safety is preventing falls from windows, which can lead to serious injuries or even fatalities. Implementing effective window fall prevention strategies is essential for creating a secure living environment.

Understanding the Risks

Windows, especially those in multi-story buildings, pose a potential hazard to young children. Curious and adventurous, children may climb a windowsill and lean against window screens, which are not designed to withstand weight. The risk increases during warmer months when windows are often left open for ventilation.

Preventive Measures

Window Guards and Stops: Installing window guards and stops is one of the most common ways to prevent falls. Window guards are metal or plastic barriers that can be attached to the window frame, preventing it from opening wide enough for a child to fall through. Window stops limit the amount a window can open, typically to no more than a few centimeters.

Locking Devices: Utilizing window locks can help ensure windows remain closed when not in use. Some locks can also restrict how much a window can be opened, providing flexibility for ventilation while maintaining safety. However, ventilation will be limited and possibly ineffective.

Wellsun is developing and testing a system of automatic window screens (nets) that will protect children (weighing up to 30 kg) from falling out of windows. This system allows the window sash to be fully open, enabling the most effective ventilation of rooms. The window screens will still perform the function of protecting against insects entering living spaces. If sun protection is also required, Wellsun offers a range of sun protection fabrics for these systems. Thus, your child will be safe during ventilation, and your home will be protected from insects and unwanted sunlight.

This system is being developed with consideration for the design of modern double-glazed windows in collaboration with manufacturers of plastic windows to ensure easy and quick installation on most standard windows. The system is installed on the outside of the window frame using an innovative solution to enhance the structure. Compact size of the system allows it to avoid reducing the light opening and makes the structure almost invisible from the inside (when the screen is rolled up). Additionally, the compact design does not disrupt the overall appearance of the building facade.

Preventing window falls is a crucial aspect of child safety that requires a combination of practical measures and vigilant supervision. Wellsun understands the seriousness of this issue and is ready to help you protect your children from danger. By using safety screens, properly placing furniture, and explaining potential hazards to children, parents can significantly reduce the risk of accidents. Creating a safe environment where children can explore the world and play without unnecessary risk is essential for their well-being and the peace of mind of their parents.
