The modern business complex “St. Petersburg Plaza” is one of the largest and most beautiful office centers in St. Petersburg. It is located in the Malaya Okhta district of the Krasnogvardeisky district near the central, historical and business part of the city.
The hallmark of the complex is the central tower of the St. Petersburg Bank, built according to the design of famous architects Sergei Choban and Evgeniy Gerasimov.
The tower is a fully glazed cylinder of a complex oval shape. The building’s glazing area is 20 thousand square meters, which is 2156 glass elements measuring 1.7 by 3.75 m. That is why one of the main tasks when designing the building was to install sun protection.
The work was carried out by WellSun using special patterns calculated using 3D modeling. Such difficulties were caused by the fact that the building has a concave surface with a strong expansion at the top, and each trapezoidal block of the facade has its own size and slope, and in two planes at once.
As the main element of sun protection, two-color WellSun perforated rainblinds with a 50 cm lamella width and a guide steel cable were chosen, specially developed for complex architectural facades. The system operates automatically using the TLT solar control function, which allows daylight to enter the premises while protecting employees from direct sunlight.
After installing the sun protection, WellSun carried out tests on the blinds, during which the structure went through 20,000 cycles in a month, which corresponds to 20 years of operation of the system.
